Office of Student Academic Success
From day one, all first-year students are paired with an academic advisor to help them build their first semester around a learning community with three classes and a group of 20 students. Upper-class students serve as peer mentors, and classes are taught by excellent faculty, including the president and provost.
Welcome to the Office of Student Academic Success in the Heckman center. The Office of Student Academic Success supports this mission by providing an open environment fostering self-exploration, self-awareness, and self-evaluation, thus encouraging a sense of personal identity for our students. Students are guided in developing an academic program consistent with their goals and natural strengths while exploring their interests, their values, skills, and abilities outside of the classroom. Services provided include academic advisement, scheduled building class selection, academic coaching, major and career exploration, connection to campus resources, and success strategies for students with sixty credits or less.
- The Academic Advising Center reaches out to students to ensure a smooth transition to college and sets them on a path to graduate on time. Students benefit from strong faculty–student collaboration in which they receive guidance on majors, minors, and general core courses.
- The Tutoring & Learning Center offers professional and peer tutors in individual or group settings and can provide assistance for writing, study skills, subject-specific tutoring, and more. The Center is available to all undergraduate UB students looking for assistance with courses and supports classroom instruction by providing valuable resources.
